Alexandra Cane has revealed that her incredible two stone weight loss was spurred on by a secret family heartache.
The Love Island star was privately suffering last year when she nearly lost both of her parents in a health scare.
The 28-year-old was terrified that she was going to lose her mum and dad, but thankfully they recovered.
But she said coming so close to losing her loved ones made her realise she had to change the way she was living her life.
As she prepares to share her secrets in her new app, Alexandra’s Happy Body Plan, she told Mirror Online how it came about in an exclusive chat.
She said: “Weight just crept up on me. There were numerous things that happened. I was dealing with health scares and I almost lost both my parents last year. I dealt with it privately.
“It’s okay, they’re both fine now but it’s a shock to the system that makes you really self aware that health is important and that I needed to start taking care of myself now.”
Alexandra, who was coupled up with Dr Alex George on Love Island in 2018, said that the party lifestyle she became accustomed to after appearing on the show also led to her putting weight on without realising it.
She said: “When you come out there’s all these social events that you go to all the time and you’re travelling and picking up food and you think you’re making healthy choices but you’re not, and you’ve got no time for exercise, but sometimes you’ve got to focus on yourself and take care of yourself. “
She added: “Coming out of Love Island, I was branded as the curvy girl and there was a sense of guilt almost because I wasn’t happy in the skin that I was in but I was telling everyone else to be positive all the time and I needed to take a leaf out of my own book really and do some self reflection and practice what I preach, and that’s what I’ve done and I’ve done it for myself and nobody else.”
Alexandra has created a workout plan with the help of personal trainer Aaron, which she’s sharing with her fans.
It also includes a diet plan created with nutritionist Amanda Ursell.
Alexandra explained: “I feel the best I’ve ever felt in my life. I feel like I’m bursting with energy and love and happiness, it’s a really beautiful feeling.
“I’ve got a spring in my step every day.
“The mental shift actually has been the craziest thing. I was at a real low point a few months ago and I’d really lost who I was and my sense of purpose and I didn’t really know what I was doing but I’ve been taking steps in the right direction and I feel phenomenal.”
She added: “My 90 day shred is 12 weeks of workouts and I’ll be doing them with my trainer Aaron and he’s great to get on the app because he’s so motivational.
“Getting motivated is one of the hardest things to do and he was a fundamental part of getting me to where I am because I didn’t believe in myself and he really helped shift my mindset.
“I’ve got so much more energy now that I can motivate myself and I feel confident to inspire others now and want to share this amazing feeling with someone else. The whole point of the app is being able to feel comfortable in your own home where you don’t feel overwhelmed and Aaron is there to get you in the right mindset, it’s supposed to be really fun and encouraging and to get people to the best versions of themselves.
“I’ve also been working with an amazing nutrionist called Amanda Ursell to make a diet plan.
“If people are wanting to lose weight there’s no restrictions they can still have their cheats and treats like sweets and alcohol, it’s all about understanding the calories so everything is in moderation and portion control.
“It’s all about understanding what you’re consuming and not focusing too much on the scales. It’s about calories in and calories out, it’s really simple and you can still enjoy all the foods you like and there are some beautiful recipes on there.”
