This is the year that was in the world of showbiz.
Whether it was the intrigue of the Wagatha Christie fallout or that smoldering performance between Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper at the Oscars, there has been plenty to keep the showbiz world on the front pages.
Here is a look at some of the biggest stories to break this year and why they became the story that everyone was talking about at the time.
Luke Perry dies
Beverly Hills, 90210 and Riverdale star Luke Perry died on March 4.
His death certificate confirmed Luke died from an ischemic cerebrovascular event – also known as a stroke – that occurred a week before he died in hospital.
He was 52 years old when he sadly passed away, after not regaining conscious.
The Khloe Kardashian-Tristan Thompson-Jordyn Woods fall out
While February is usually a time for romance with Valentine’s at its core, for the Kardashians it was a time for much soul searching and bust-ups.
Jordyn Woods was Kylie Jenner’s BFF and NBA star Tristan Thompson was hanging in there as Khloe Kardashian’s boyfriend.
That was until Jordyn and Tristan allegedly shared a kiss at a house party and it all blew up big time.
Khloe dumped Tristan, the KarJenners dumped Jordyn and forgiveness has been long in forthcoming.
R Kelly allegations
On January 3, a documentary series called Surviving R Kelly was released and it became a massive expose of alleged sexual assaults made by the R n’ B singer.
Within days he was dropped by his record company and in February, celebrity lawyer Michael Avenatti claims he has a video showing Kelly having sex with a 14-year-old girl.
Within weeks, Kelly is charged in Chicago with 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. He pleads not guilty but prosecutors later file an additional 11 charges of sexual assault and abuse against a minor aged between 13 and 16.
The accuser is thought to be one of the women featured in the documentary, who says she met the singer during his 2008 child pornography trial.
Singer Adele and her husband Simon Konecki announced they were splitting on April 20.
They had been married since 2016, after dating for five years previous to that, having a son, Angelo, in 2012.
Adele filed for divorce in September and has since been seen dating rapper Skepta.
Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga
Bradley Cooper had directed Lady Gaga in Oscar-winning film A Star Is Born but their relationship appeared to be more than ‘work buddies’.
The pair became very close and as award season descended on Tinseltown, they became inseparable with many in the media questioning the nature of their relationship.
An impassioned and intimate performance at the Oscars didn’t help their case in denying that it was all purely professional and it seemed that their partners had had enough of the charade.
Lady Gaga’s engagement to Christian Carino was called off and Bradley Cooper’s other half, supermodel Irina Shayk, eventually called time on their coupling as the rumours reached fever pitch.
Gaga and Cooper always denied anything happened and when they both became singletons but didn’t hook up, it would seem that there was nothing romantic going on after all.
Liam Neeson ‘wanting to kill’
The Irish actor caused an outcry in February while promoting his vigilante justice movie Cold Pursuit when he recalled an incident in which a female friend told him she had been raped by a man who was black.
During an interview, Neeson said he had walked near pubs with a heavy stick at the time “hoping some ‘black b*****d’ would come out of a pub and have a go at me about something, you know? So that I could … kill him”.
Neeson then compounded the situation in an appearance on Good Morning America, in which he tried to clarify the comments.
He instead described how he had ‘primal urges’ during that time, some 40 years ago.
During the car crash TV appearance, Neeson insisted: “I’m not a racist.”
After some reflection, Neeson then issued a formal apology, saying: “The horror of what happened to my friend ignited irrational thoughts that do not represent the person I am.”
Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth split
Eight months after being the darlings of the showbiz world by tying the knot after a decade of dating, it all fell apart for Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth.
While Liam retreated back to Australia to get in some surfing time with his brother Chris, Miley embarked on a high profile fling with The Hills star Kaitlynn Carter.
After a couple months of deep infatuation with Kaitlyn, Miley had had enough and decided to take time out.
That was until she fell for Cody Simpson and the relationship plates are spinning again.
The death of Keith Flint
Prodigy singer Keith Flint was found dead at his home on March 4.
A post mortem examination found the cause of his death to be hanging. Cocaine, alcohol, and codeine were found in his system.
Keith admitted to FHM in 2015 that he wasn’t saving any of his money and once he was done, he would be done.
He said: “I’m not saving for anything. I’m cashing it all now.
“I’ve always had this thing inside me that, when I’m done, I’ll kill myself.”
Love Island star Mike Thalassitis was found dead at the age of 26, in March.
Mike was a former League Two footballer who shot to fame on ITV2 dating show in 2017.
Nearly two years after his stint in the villa, the tragic star’s body was discovered in a woods near his Essex home.
Social media was flooded with tributes for Mike, known affectionately as ‘Muggy’ with many of his co-stars also turning out to show their support at his funeral.
Villa-mate Montana Brown delivered the eulogy and took the opportunity to ask for people to be kinder to each other.
She said: “I can see a lot of reality faces in the room, please do not let this pass you by.
“It’s so hard, the rejection, the competitiveness, the need to constantly look like you’re ok, on social media.
“So let’s learn from this, we’re all in the same boat, we all have the same stresses.”
Disney star Cameron Boyce passes away
Disney star Cameron Boyce, who was riding high with popular movie franchise Descendants, died on July 6 while he was asleep at his North Hollywood home and it shocked a generation.
A few days later, the cause of death was revealed to have been a ‘sudden unexpected death in epilepsy’.
The Love Island love triangle
Love Island is not a place for shrinking violets and it proved to be the home of one of the most brutal public dumpings of the year.
The ITV2 show had seen Curtis Pritchard hook up with Amy Hart from day one and within a couple of weeks, they were acting like an old married couple.
Then Maura Higgins arrived and Curtis had his head turned so much, it did a 360.
What followed was an excruciating, humiliating dumping of Amy, which left many fearing for her mental state and quitting the villa just days later.
Curtis and Maura are still together and their relationship continues to blossom.
Katie Price bankruptcy
The former glamour model failed to pay off thousands of pounds in debt after blowing through her estimated £45million fortune.
At a hearing in October last year, she was given time to negotiate a deal with the taxman over her finances but failed to pay back the agreed £12,000 a month.
Despite this, Katie was as defiant as ever declaring on her My Crazy Life TV show: “I will be out of bankruptcy in a year. Its not that bad.
“I’ve got nothing to be ashamed of anymore. Loads of people go through it like me. It’s just a matter of going through the motions. This is what has to be.”
Kevin Hart car crash
Stand-up comedian and Hollywood star Kevin Hart was involved in a car smash where his 1970 Plymouth Barracuda come off the Mulholland Highway and plunged down a gully.
The crash on September 1 also involved his pals Jared Black, who was driving at the time, and Rebecca Broxterman, who was sat with Hart in the back of the vehicle.
Kevin Hart broke his back and was hospitalised but made a remarkably quick recovery, though during his rehabilitation, he had to learn to walk again.
In October a war of the WAGs erupted in spectacular fashion when Coleen Rooney dropped one of the best reads of 2019 in a single tweet.
The wife of footballer Wayne Rooney informed the world she had uncovered a rat on her private social media page who she believed had been selling stories about her to the press.
Cunning Coleen told how she began to plant false stories on her Instagram page which she made viewable to one profile only.
“I have saved and screenshotted all the original stories which clearly show just one person has viewed them.
“It’s………Rebekah Vardy’s account,” wrote super sleuth Rooney.
Shortly after Coleen’s lengthy post, Vardy responded to say her account must have been ‘hacked.’
She wrote to Coleen: “I’m not being funny but I don’t need the money, what would I gain from selling stories on you?” and “I’m disgusted that I’m even having to deny this.”
Caroline Flack assault charge
Love Island host Caroline Flack was arrested and charged with assault by beating following a private domestic incident reportedly involving her boyfriend Lewis Burton on December 13.
She appeared on bail at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court on December 23, where she pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Caroline stepped down from hosting Winter Love Island in the furore following her arrest, with Laura Whitmore being handed the presenting duties on the upcoming ITV2 series.
