Bollywood star Kushal Punjabi has died by suicide at the age of 37, after leaving a note to his three-year-old son.
The Indian actor’s body was found at his home in Pali Hill, Mumbai, on Thursday night. Police believe he died by hanging.
Kushal, who described himself on Instagram as “Dancing daddy” and a “travel/adventure/fitness junkie”, had left a note at his address asking his family to divide his assets between his parents and sister, with half of his estate to go to his little boy.
Little Kian appeared in his dad’s last Instagram post, which the actor published on Christmas Eve.
The cartoon-style image showed Kushal cuddling Kian, which he captioned with two simple love-heart emojis.
Bollywood reacted with shock to the talented star’s death, with fellow actor Karanvir Bohra writing: “Your demise has shocked the hell out of me. I’m still in denial, Kushal Punjabi. I know you are in a happier place, but this is unfathomable. The way you lead your life really inspired me in more ways than one…. but what was I to know.
“Your zest for dancing, fitness, off-road biking, fatherhood and above all that, that smiling face of yours, your happy-go-lucky nature your warmth all that was such ingenuity. I’m gonna miss you so much #kushlani. You will always be remembered as a guy who lived a full life.”
And his co-star Arjun Bijlani paid tribute in kind, writing: “We worked together on ishqmeinmarjawan and @PunjabiKushal was one positive guy always wearing a smile. I am shocked to hear that he has left us. May your soul rest in peace.”
Kushal is survived by his wife Audrey Dolhen and son Kian.
