Bride and Prejudice star Milly Johnson was warned by her mother that her ex-fiancé was on the road to self-destruction.
Micah Downey suddenly died last month at the age of 26 and Milly’s mother, Catherine Johnson, told her he “couldn’t be saved” after he refused to go to rehab to address a drug problem.
Milly, 23, had called off the wedding in the light of Micah’s decision and her mother comforted her as she broke down in tears in scenes before Micah’s tragic death.
Catherine said: “You’re sad now, but you’re better off. You know you’re not his saviour. Honey, you’re not going to save him.
“He’s got to save himself and you can’t marry someone because you feel sorry for them. He needs to prove himself and he hasn’t.”
Catherine’s haunting words were aired on November 11 in Australia, just six weeks before Micah died after moving back to California.
It was believed the footage was filmed in May and Micah died on December 28.
Milly is pregnant with her second child with Micah, after previously having a son, Julian, and she announced his passing on New Year’s Eve.
Since his death, Channel Seven has removed Bride and Prejudice from all platforms including online.
All videos of Micah’s ‘journey’ on the reality show have been removed from the show’s Facebook page.
Daily Mail Australia has reported that a Seven spokesperson said: “These were removed out of respect during this very difficult time.”
Milly and Micah had seen their relationship become strained, partly due to his drug use, so they went on Bride and Prejudice in the hope of breathing new life into their coupling.
Unfortunately they split before walking down the aisle.
Micah was often labelled a “drug addict” by his future mother-in-law but refused to go to rehab when confronted about it.
Micah said: “If I wanted to, I could go and find any drug in the world right now. That’s all there is to it. If I want it, it’ll happen – if I don’t, it won’t.”
The troubled star said that he couldn’t see a point where he ‘ever stopped smoking cannabis’, even if it meant that he would save his relationship with Milly.
Micah claimed rehab was “pointless” and insisted that he had passed a drug test, which backed up his belief.
Announcing the death of Micah, Milly said about her ex-fiancé on Instagram : “It is so sad and unbelievably surreal that I am making this post. On the 28 December 2019 Micah Patrick Downey passed away.
“I am struggling to put into words how sad and heartbreaking this is, I just hope he is at peace wherever he is and that he will always be watching over his babies.
“A bad, bad dream. I can’t believe you’re not here. Rest in peace, Micah.”
