David Platt will face further heartbreak next week as wife Shona Ramsey’s breathing tube is removed – risking her life in the process – on Coronation Street .
His partner, played by actress Julia Goulding, was one of three people shot during the ITV soap’s dramatic Christmas Day siege.
Shona was rushed to hospital and, initially, appeared fine but has since lapsed into a coma, with doctors fearing that she may have suffered permanent brain damage and may never wake up again.
In the week beginning January 6, David’s brother Nick attempts to gently persuade David to let Shona’s friends visit her as it may be the last time they ever see her.
But David is left fearing the worst as doctors say they want to remove Shona’s breathing tube and tries to refuse.
Eventually, David agrees and the consultant removes the tube – will she be able to defy the odds or will David be forced to face the death of yet another loved one?
Meanwhile David is in for more turmoil as he discovers the outcome of his rape ordeal. Imran calls at the hospital and breaks the news to David about the result.
This comes after David nervously takes to the stand this week and painful memories start to resurface from his traumatic exeperience.
When asked how they first met, David says: “He worked on the street where I live and I signed up for this charity boxing event he organised. We became good mates.
“We had a laugh. And my older brother had moved away from the area so I guess I needed a mate.
“He worked on the street, similar sort of age, seems natural for us to knock about. But I had no idea he was grooming me.”
Discussing the night he was raped, David says: “I can’t really tell you a lot because I don’t remember it all.
“It seemed like any other night, but it wasn’t as he spiked my drink and I don’t remember a lot after that. It’s a bit of a blur. Thank god.”
When asked what he remembers next, David replies: “Waking up in his bed after he raped me.”
Taking to Twitter , one viewer said: “I hope that David Platt finally gets justice. I know it would be unrealistic coz not all rape reports are justified, but David really needs proper closure with this and Josh deserves to be locked up and have the key thrown away!”
