Tonight’s Coronation Street is the start of a harrowing storyline for Maria Connor as Daniel Osbourne’s decision to not have Bertie vaccinated has devastating consequences.
Earlier this month, viewers watched as Daniel took his young son to have his jabs done, only to take him away before they were done because Bertie was in pain.
This evening, Daniel (Rob Mallard) is horrified when he discovers his son barely conscious in his cot and tells his brother Peter (Chris Gascoyne) to call for an ambulance.
When the paramedics arrive they question him on the rash on Bertie’s back and Daniel blames himself for not noticing sooner.
Later, the consultant confirms that Bertie has measles and Daniel is forced to admit to Peter and Beth, played by Lisa George, that he didn’t take Bertie back for the rest of his vaccinations.
Unsurprisingly, Beth is furious and rages at him for endangering Bertie’s life.
Daniel confides in his dad Ken that he couldn’t bear to see his son in pain when he took him for his first jab so never went back.
Beth heads to the Rovers and rants about Daniel, but Bethany attempts to defend Daniel – but it doesn’t go down well.
At the hospital, Daniel screams at his family to leave him alone as he stays by Bertie’s bedside.
Meanwhile Maria admits to Gary that she fears that she is coming down with something and isn’t well enough to travel with him to Bristol.
And her worst fears are answered later this week when she begins bleeding and is taken to the hospital for a scan.
The sonographer tells a heartbroken Maria that she has lost the baby, with the doctor later suggesting that her contracting measles has likely caused her miscarriage.
How will Daniel react when he discovers that his actions have prompted Maria to lose her baby?
