The same sex routine on Dancing On Ice between and ‘H’ Watkins and Matt Evers got 16 Ofcom complaints when it aired on Sunday.
It was the first show to air a same sex dance, and 16 people were unable to cope with the concept of two men dancing.
Ofcom told Metro in a statement: “The selection and pairing of contestants is an editorial matter for ITV.
“Our rules do not discriminate between opposite-sex and same-sex couples.”
Aside from those 16, the dance went down well with viewers and the judges, particularly judge John Barrowman, who was moved to tears.
H and Matt received 25 points from the judges, which included John along with Ashley Banjo, Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean.
John, who is gay, could be seen welling up as H and Matt whirled and twirled across the rink.
When co-host Phillip Schofield asked how John was doing he replied: “I am [emotional].
“That makes me happy on a compete multitude of levels just because of seeing two men who represent someone who is like me, and to skate as well as you did, you’ve done it now, the nerves are out of the way.
“You’ve shown that two men can perform and skate together. It doesn’t have to be what you did before with the man/woman thing…you know, man/man, switch it up, do it different ways.
“Be versatile, you know what I’m saying? Listen…I’m overhwelmed. I’m almost speechless. It was wonderful.”
Fans were getting emotional too.
One wrote: “i am crying at the first same sex couple ever on dancing on ice??? b**** i might be.”
Another gushed: “Dancing on ice having a same sex couple for the very first time on the shows history makes me so incredibly happy (idk if people who aren’t from the uk will know what this is).”
A third could hardly contain their glee, tweeting: “Dancing On Ice!!!!!! YES YES YES! Absolutely incredible! #DancingOnIce BE WHO YOU WANT TO BE!!!”
