Derek Acorah’s cause of death has yet to be confirmed officially, but the self-styled spiritual medium’s wife has described it as sudden.
“Farewell my love! I will miss you forever! I’m devastated to announce that my beloved husband Derek has passed away after a very brief illness,” she wrote.
“Thank you so much to everybody who has supported me – I can never thank you enough.”
She then lashed out: “To the vile couple who hounded him for responses to their ridiculous campaign whilst he was in Intensive Care in a coma, I hope you have the decency to hang your heads in shame. I have things to deal with now but I won’t forget nor will I forgive what you have done!”
Derek was under investigation months before he died for a series of Facebook posts on his official page.
The self-styled medium was the subject of a probe by the Advertising Standards Authority last September after three complaints were lodged against his account.
According to the Daily Star , social media users were offered free readings in exchange for liking Derek’s Instagram page, then received spam messages about his crystal ball and dead relatives wanting to talk.
One alleged victim claimed she’d received 17 messages from his page, one of which read: “Derek here, your loved ones in the Spirit world have a message waiting for you! What is it & who is it from? Text ‘DEREK’ to 85358! £1/per msg, max 3, terms apply.”
But Derek’s spokesman said at the time: “He would never intentionally mislead any member of the public and has received assurances that all social media activities are within the rules.”
