Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein faced protests yesterday as he arrives at court on rape and sexual assault charges.

At least 20 protesters – some holding placards – were waiting as Weinstein, 67, pulled up in a black SUV before being led to court as he pushed a frame.

Actresses Rose McGowan and Rosanna Arquette, who accuse him of abuse, were near the New York court. Rose said: “He’s taken some good acting tips.”

He will face five charges in the trial and could spend the rest of his life in jail.

Meanwhile prosecutors in Los Angeles indicted him on a string of new sex crime charges yesterday.

Los Angeles County District Attorney Jackie Lacey said yesterday the producer had been charged with raping one woman and sexually assaulting another in separate incidents over two days in 2013.

“We believe the evidence will show that the defendant used his power and influence to gain access to his victims and then commit violent crimes against them,” Ms Lacey said in a statement.

“I want to commend the victims who have come forward and bravely recounted what happened to them. It is my hope that all victims of sexual violence find strength and healing as they move forward.”

He is alleged to have raped a woman in a hotel room on February 18, 2013, after he pushed his way inside.
