Jonah Hill, 36, has posted a heartbreaking post where he reflected sitting court side to ‘his hero’ Kobe Bryant, 41,during a Western Conference Finals game in 2010 – which he attended with his late sibling Jordan Feldstein.
NBA legend Kobe , 41, and daughter Gianna, 13, were among nine people who lost their lives in a tragic helicopter crash in foggy conditions over Calabasas, California at the weekend.
Jonah’s music producer brother Jordan sadly passed away in December 2017 at the age of 40.
Jonah told in the emotional Instagram post, shared on Wednesday, that it ‘is one of his favourite memories ever’ and added two snaps from the game.
He explained: “This picture became a funny internet thing years back and it always made me laugh when I’d see memes of it . I used to love “on purpose, very awkward photos” whenever I was around someone I respected and this is about as comically awkward as it gets.
“Ah, your early 20s. It’s a dumb bit but I really liked it at the time. I hesitate to post this as it’s usually connected to humor. But for me this photo represents a LOT more.
“I’m sitting next to my brother and he’s taking this. It was the night we both met Kobe and he was so nice to us. So funny, so amazing and so kind (in the middle of a game!).
My brother and I grew up worshiping the Lakers and because of my job we got to sit next to Kobe and the whole team! I have lived a privileged life. Truly. We were literally buzzing with excitement to meet our hero and it’s one of my favorite memories ever.
“It’s my favorite memory with my brother . I’m sitting between Kobe and my brother and now they’re both gone.
“I have been staring at this photo for days in disbelief and sadness and joy. It’s my favorite picture and I think it represents for me, all of the hard and amazing things in life and how fleeting they are. But their fleeting nature doesn’t make them any less beautiful.
“I’ve been thinking a lot about saying Rest In Peace and what that means. But I don’t think Kobe or my brother are resting. I think they’re hustling up there. Working hard and getting shit done. Cuz that’s what they do. All my love to the ones here left behind. Take care of each other and love each other . That’s the lesson I’ve learned.”
According to the Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner’s online records , the cause of death of the actor’s brother is listed as pulmonary thromboembolism, which is a condition in which one or more arteries in the lungs get blocked by a blood clot.
In addition, a deep leg vein thrombosis, which is a blood clot, was listed as the secondary cause of death.
The documents state that Acute bronchopneumonia and obesity were other significant causes in his death.
The cause of Kobe and his daughter Gianna’s passing was confirmed by the LA County coroner’s office on Thursday.
The Los Angeles County coroner’s office has announced that all nine victims of the crash lost their lives to “blunt trauma”, with the deaths certified as an “accident”, according to Hollywood Life .
Also among those who also died in the crash were Orange Coast College baseball coach John Altobelli, 56, his wife Keri, their daughter Alyssa and Harbor Day School assistant coach Christina Mauser.
Another young player, Payton Chester, was also killed along with her mother Sarah Chester, and pilot Ara Zobayan.
The S-76B helicopter they were travelling in crashed after suffering a descent rate of 2,000 feet per minute.
Jennifer Homendy, a board member on the National Transportation Safety Board, described the accident as a “high energy impact crash” after the helicopter suffered a descent rate of 2,000 feet per minute.
Heavy fog blanketed Los Angeles on the morning of the accident – but the probable cause of the crash will not be confirmed until the NTSB release a final report into the incident, which may not be for another 12-18 months.
