Kerry Katona has voiced her support for Caroline Flack, calling her alleged assault on her boyfriend a ‘heated moment’.
The former Atomic Kitten singer, 39, voiced her belief that Caroline, 40, should be able to return to Love Island after she stepped down following her arrest.
Writing in her column for New! Magazine, Kerry said: “I’m a survivor of domestic violence so I’m not condoning it, but we’ve all had heated moments with our partners and we all make mistakes.
“It feels very unfair what’s happened to her and I don’t think Love Island will be quite the same without her.”
Kerry compared the situation to Ant McPartlin, who returned to work for ITV after taking a year out following a drink driving conviction.
She added: “Women are treated so different to men in this industry and I just hope ITV have her back like they do Ant McPartlin’s.
“I love Ant and I’m thrilled for him and his recovery, but I feel like the industry has treated Caroline very different to the way it treated him and it’s wrong.”
Caroline said she was experiencing “the worst time in my life” ahead of a court appearance last month.
She denies assaulting her boyfriend, tennis player Lewis Burton, 27, at her home after reading text messages on his phone.
She faces trial in March.
The TV presenter has been replaced by Laura Whitmore but bosses have revealed that they’re leaving the door open for Caroline to return.
Show runner Amanda Stavri says bosses are in “constant contact” with Caroline, who is taking time out in LA.
Speaking at the new villa, commissioning editor Amanda said: “We are continuing to talk to Caroline. We are in constant contact and the door is open.”
