Louise Redknapp is at the centre of an incredible million-pound legal battle – over Peppa Pig.

The company behind the hit TV kids’ show has been accused of ripping off Louise’s 1996 song Naked in a song sung by Peppa.

The track – called Peppa’s Party Time – features on Peppa Pig: My First Album, which was released last July.

The songwriters behind Louise’s song launched legal action against Canadian company Entertainment One claiming it was an infringement of copyright.

Sources claim the company has since settled, with the composers entitled to all backdated and future royalties, which could earn them up to £1million.

Their names, including veteran music producer Denis Ingoldsby who launched Louise’s girlband Eternal, are now officially credited alongside the original composers of the Peppa track.

Entertainment One boasted last December how the album had already clocked up 14 million global streams in just five months.

Newspaper USA Today described the disputed track as the highlight of the new album, as well as its “token dance number”.

A press release about the album called the track a “toe-tapping dance number”.

The lyrics, sung by voice of Peppa Harley Bird, include: “I’m having a party/do you want to come/ there’s going to be lots of dancing and maybe some dancing in muddy puddles too.”

It bears an uncanny similarity to Louise’s single Naked, which was taken off her debut album of the same name.

The song, which reached Number five in the charts, sold more than a million copies in the UK, although the lyrics were of a slightly more adult content compared to the Peppa Pig song.

In the video, Louise writhes around on a couch as she sings: “I can feel your eyes all over my body/I can read the signs, they’re sexual/ I can read your mind/I can see you want me/ Something in your eyes is sensual/ You make me feel naked/ Undressing me with your eyes/ You make me feel naked.”

Ingoldsby formed girlband Eternal in 1992. They had six top 15 singles and the biggest selling album of 1994. Louise, whose maiden name was Nurding, left before the second album but Ingoldsby continued to work with her, including on single Naked as a solo artist.

The 45-year-old went on to sell more than two million albums.

The singer, who has two sons with ex-husband Jamie Redknapp, is currently releasing her first album in 20 years, called Heavy Love.

Talking this week about the new collection of songs, she said on Good Morning Britain this week: “

“It’s a very personal album. I never thought I’d do music again, so being here in the position where I’ve just released an album after 20 years… not only does it mean the world and I’ve kind of bared my heart and soul a little bit on this album… you don’t want to fail.”

She added: “I was so fortunate to have success twenty years ago with everything that you just want to keep the momentum going and you kind of want to do what you love. You need to sell records to do what you love, so I’m nervous, but excited as well.”

Ed Sheeran is currently embroiled in a copyright case after being accused of copying Marvin Gaye’s Let’s Get It On. Sheeran denies ripping off sections of the 1973 classic for his number one hit Thinking Out Loud.

Entertainment One didn’t return repeated requests for comment.
