Love Island ‘bad boy’ Michael Griffiths has admitted he doesn’t regret what he did to Amber Gill.
The firefighter was blasted by the public when he left Amber single during the Casa Amor twist last year after having his head turned by Joanna Chimonides.
Michael and Amber had been discussing how they were going to split their time between Newcastle and Liverpool after returning to the outside world before they were separated by the twist.
Amber returned from Casa Amor single, with hopes of reuniting with Michael, only to find him standing with his arm around another girl.
He ended up with a bad boy reputation, and of course, Amber later coupled up with Irish rugby player Greg O’Shea and they went on to win the show together.
But Michael says he doesn’t regret any of it.
He looked back on his time in the villa during an exclusive chat with Mirror Online as he talked about his latest reality role in MTV’s Celebrity Ex On The Beach.
When asked if he felt any regret after Amber went on to win the show without him, he said: “No, not at all. If I’d have stayed with Amber for the sake of it I’d be doing none of us any justice.
“We weren’t going to work in a relationship so why would I drag it out and hurt her in the long run? Even though I hurt her there and then she went on to win it.
“It would have been worse in the long run, I was true to myself and I don’t regret anything with Amber because we weren’t meant to be together and if I like someone else then it’s obviously not meant to be. I wouldn’t be interested in another girl if I was meant to be with her.
“Look at Tommy [Fury] and Molly-Mae [Hague], they’re still together and they’re doing great. So no, I don’t regret anything. If I see her I can speak to her but it’s not like I’m going to pick up the phone and call her because we don’t have anything to speak about. I’m not really a bad guy.”
He added: “I said I’d much rather they painted me as the villain than anybody else, because I wouldn’t like to see anyone else go through what I’ve been through.”
Michael said he hasn’t watched any of his time in the Love Island villa back, but that people should remember that break ups like his happen every day.
He said: “People go through it every day, it’s just that I did it on TV.”
