Love Island viewers were baffled when Sophie Piper carelessly branded new arrival Demi Jones “thingy”.
She was talking to Nas Majeed about the recoupling when she appeared to forget Demi’s name, the girl who Nas chose to couple up with.
Instead of remembering Demi’s name, she just called her “thingy”.
Sobbing Sophie was upset as Shaughna Phillips had chided her for her treatment of Nas.
Sophie had tried to get Nas to chose her in a friendship couple instead of choosing Demi, who he had finally connected with after weeks of struggling to find love in the villa.
So viewers took her carelessness when talking about Demi as a sign of disrespect toward her budding relationship with Nas.
One tweeted: “Confiding in Nas then calling his girl “thingy” is not exactly the most sincere approach whilst attention seeking to this level”.
“Lol Sophie can’t even remember poor “thingy’s” name she’s not happy for Nas at all!!!!,” wrote another.
“Did Sophie actually call Demi “thingy”??? the f**k…,” added a third.
Nas comforted Sophie, while Callum Jones confronted Shaughna, who he is coupled up with, for “making Sophie cry”.
The following morning, Shaughna apologised to Sophie for criticising her, and the pair hugged it out.
But viewers seemed to be on Shaughna’s side, and one wrote: “Shaughna did not need to apologise. a REAL friend tells you when you’re being a d**khead and that’s exactly what sophie was doing.”
Another wrote: “Sophie’s manipulating the situation making shaughna out to be some bully for literally jus saying what everyone else is thinking ?”.
“Sophie’s so manipulative like Shaughna has done nothing wrong? I find people like that so dangerous cause they’re so believable.. she’s only upset cause Shaughna caught her out”, added another.
Amber Gill, who won the show last year, also hit out at Sophie, calling her “manipulative” for trying to make Nas pick her.
Taking to Twitter, Amber told her 214k followers: “If I spoke last night it would have been pure venom I’m shocked how manipulative some of girls are being leave Nas out of it leave him alone he’s JUST found a good thing and you care more about yourselves.
“Do not guilt trip the nicest guy there. #lovelsland“.
