The Masked Singer may have broken the internet.
The ITV singing competition sees celebrities sing in front of a panel of judges and a studio audience, but stay hidden beneath cartoonish costumes.
However, with another five stars performing, viewers took to social media to share their theories on who the other masked celebrities are – from superstar singers to TV comedians… and even the Prime Minister.
With the stars themselves giving away tiny nuggets of information in their pre-performance interviews, here are some of the best fan theories for The Masked Singer.
Who are the celebrities on The Masked Singer?
Hints : Chameleon boasts about having “many talents” and is a “dazzling urban act”, although he’s “more used to the tech of the ’70s”.
“I once provided the voice of a children’s cartoon character,” he added helpfully.
Theories : There already seems to be a favourite playing the colourful character with quite the bulge on display !
The character sang Creep by Radiohead in the opening episode and impressed the audiences.
Hints : Duck says she’s “a real softie, although maybe you wouldn’t think it” and was “shy and quiet” when she was younger.
She also used to be a long-distance runner.
“I’ve always been sporty and like to push myself,” says Duck. “You might even catch me surfing from time to time.”
Theories : There is one clear favourite for the Duck who sang Madonna’s Like a Virgin: Denise Lewis.
The sports presenter and former athlete has got the most mentions on social media as viewers frantically work out the clues.
Either way, they admirably strutted their stuff as a duck with a cone bra and ponytail.
Hints : Hedgehog says he’s a “homely creature” who is “most active at night” and a bit of a “workaholic”.
He describes himself as “more introverted than people might expect” but is “very friendly” and counts the stage as his “natural habitat”.
“I once had a job that meant I died at 8.30 every night,” he offered.
Theories : A guess for the Hedgehog is Gavin & Stacey star Rob Brydon for the performance of Little Mix’s Black Magic.
However, someone else thought it was actually comedian Eddie Izzard , while a different account guessed Jack Whitehall and another Jason Mansford.
No matter what, it seems to be that people are predicting a British funnyman to be the true identity.
Comedian Rhod Gilbert has also emerged as a potential prickly hedgehog.
Finally, one posited the theory that Boris Johnson has taken a break from politics to play the role.
They wrote: “I am 100% certain this is why our PM has not been seen. My money he’s the hedgehog. #themaskedsinger ”
The Queen Bee
Hints : The Queen Bee has revealed: “Out of all of my friends, I am the joker of the pack.”
She says she started her career “quite young”, has “always been a part of a wild card” but is now “grown up”, adding: “I’m no longer a princess – I’m a queen.”
Theories : There has been some debate around Queen Bee, who sang Sia’s Alive in the launch show.
RuPaul’s Drag Race star Cheryl Hole is convinced it is former Girls Aloud star Nicola Roberts.
But many others feel it has to Welsh singer and “voice of an angel” Charlotte Church.
Another wrote thought it was another former Girls Aloud member Cheryl.
Hints : Unicorn has always “stood out from the crowd”, “been different” and has “flair”, describing themselves as “a bit of a show pony”.
“When I was a child, I used to go on holiday on a private plane,” they added.
Theories : The guesses also came in for the galloping Unicorn with a rainbow mane who sang Kate Bush’s Babooshka, and again there was a clear favourite for the culprit.
One posited that it was “definitely John Barrowman” on Twitter.
Another guessed: ” #TheMaskedSinger if Unicorn isn’t John Barrowman I will eat my hooves.”
While another wrote they expect dancer and TV judge Louis Spence to be underneath the fabulous face.
More singers will take to the stage in the next instalment – who will be next to be unmasked?
The Masked Singer continues tonight at 8pm on ITV.
