Netflix has released its most-watched shows of the year – with The Crown failing to make the Top 10.
It comes as Olivia Colman has divided some viewers in the title role with some saying they prefer the previous Queen Claire Foy instead.
Others have questioned the writing of series three saying it’s not been as good as the previous two outings.
Instead The Disappearance Of Madeleine McCann, After Life, Sex Education, dominated the list of most popular releases in the UK this year, as well as Black Mirror and Top Boy.
The Irishman, starring Al Pacino and Joe Pesci, and Murder Mystery, starring Jennifer Aniston, were among the films that featured.
Netflix rarely publishes any data regarding viewing figures, so the lists are the closest indicator of how popular a show is.
The Crown is considered to be one of the streaming service’s most prestigious shows and series three was launched on November 17
Colman made her debut as Queen Elizabeth II, along with Helena Bonham-Carter as Princess Margaret.
Netflix even made the premiere of season three available for free to non-subscribers.
The fact the show wasn’t launched until November may have been a factor in why it didn’t make the Top Ten. But Game of Thrones-type drama The Witcher, which stars Superman actor Henry Cavill, launched in December and made the list.
Season four of The Crown is already being filmed and it’s expected to run for six series, with Imelda Staunton taking on the titular role for series five.
