The pop star, 28, has opened up about his career and personal life, including his stratospheric rise to fame on The X Factor.
In an interview with The Sun, Louis spoke about the difficulty he faced when transitioning from his more relaxed and party-led lifestyle in sixth form to the stardom of One Direction.
He said: “I auditioned for The X Factor and suddenly, boom, I’m not living at home any more and that took a while for me to understand.”
It seems that the consistent partying led to a stern talking-to from manager Simon Cowell.
“At one of the earlier gigs in One Direction, really early on before we had any singles out, I got drunk before it and I got a massive bollocking from Simon, saying I shouldn’t be doing gigs leathered.”
However, Louis credits Simon for being helping him to come to his senses, for despite being a defiant 18-year-old at first, it was definitely “needed”.
Louis revealed: “Suddenly people expected more from me and initially being a role model and under- standing all that was the hardest thing to get my head around.”
He also discussed being compared to the other members of One Direction as they pursue solo work and whether the band will reunite.
“I used to feel more pressure about matching up to anything any of the others do,” said Louis, “but the reality is we have different skill sets and different fans.”
The “reserved” Louis described a “mutual respect” between himself and Harry, who he said is “a star, there’s no two ways about it.”
Louis is currently promoting his debut solo album entitled Walls, which is due to be released on January 31, while the title single is out now.
