Piers Morgan warned TV viewers to not be ‘fooled’ by Holly Willoughby’s ‘fake halo’ during a rant on Monday morning’s Good Morning Britain.
The outspoken anchor, 54, did not hold back when he launched into a speech about the ITV sweetheart after he discovered GMB is being pitted against This Morning for the best daytime show award at this year’s National Television Awards.
As he sat next to Susanna Reid, Piers exclaimed: “I’m not going this year, it’s a total waste of time. It’s actually got very boring.”
Taking aim at Willoughby, he added: “Holly always goes, ‘Oh! Me again?!’ Then she leans in and goes, ‘Take that you little….’
He continued: “Do not be ever deterred by the Holly Willoughby fake halo.”
The NTA’s are set to take place on Tuesday 28 January at The O2 London.
Piers and his co-host Susanna returned to the ITV show at 6am today following their Christmas break
But the daytime schedule has been given a massive shake up following the axing of The Jeremy Kyle Show after the suicide of guest Steve Dymond.
To fill the hour-long slot in the schedule, both GMB and This Morning have been extended for 30 minutes each.
However, fans were unhappy when they discovered that Piers and Susanna don’t actually show up until half an hour into the programme, meaning they start at 6.30am, 30 minutes later than they used to.
The show used to run until 8.30am, with Lorraine then taking over.
It now runs until 9am, but the change first thing means Piers and Susanna don’t actually work any extra time.
The first 30 minutes of the programme was instead overseen by presenter Charlotte Hawkins and weather presenter Laura Tobin, who went over the headlines and weather for the day ahead.
Piers and Susanna then arrived on the studio floor at 6.30am to take over.
People watching at home couldn’t believe it, with some saying they were led to believe that Piers and Susanna would cover the extra 30 minutes themselves.
Viewers immediately took to Twitter to ask producers to reconsider the shake-up.
One said: “@piersmorgan please come back at 6, I cant get my head around this new format! #GMB.”
Another commented: “#GMB Is this the new format? If so not happy as only watch until 6:30 so no longer going to see #piersmorgan. It was my morning laugh. Not happy.””
While one wrote: “@GMB upset with the new format already #gmb #piersfrom6”
* Good Morning Britain airs from 6am on weekdays on ITV
