Stormzy has been blasted by a top cop for confessing to a string of crimes – including mugging a pizza delivery man and stealing his moped.
The rapper, 26, described himself as ‘reckless and stupid’, before adding, ‘at the time it was so normal.’
His admission has been slammed by former Met murder detective Start Gibbon, who said it could lead to copy cat crimes.
Speaking to the Daily Star, Mr Gibbon said: “I do not think these comments are helpful in any way. He could have stuck to the line: ‘I used to have a lifestyle of crime and look at me now – I’ve turned it around’.
“But he goes into lots of unnecessary detail. He doesn’t say there is anything wrong with it, which there is.”
Mr Gibbon went on: “He says it is ‘bog standard’ in these areas.
“These crimes are still happening and some people take what he says as gospel, so I do not think these comments are helpful.”
Stormzy, who is currently Number 1 in the album and singles chart, said he has since come to realise how ‘reckless and stupid’ he was in his teenage years while growing up in Croydon.
During a candid chat with US radio host Charlamagne Tha Good last wek, BRIT nominee Stormzy said: “I was a hood rat. Sometimes, man’s on the block in your school uniform all day.
“I remember being a hood rat, indulging in everything a young black kid in London does.
“Back then no one batted an eyelid: a robbery, a stabbing, a fight in the middle of the road.
“Jumping in a cab and bumping the driver, ordering a pizza and robbing a pizza man and taking his ’ped, that was so bog standard.
“Looking back, we were reckless and stupid but at the time it was so normal.”
Elsewhere in the frank chat, Stormzy opened up about his love life and admitted he was pining for his ex Maya Jama, who he split from last year.
“I would love to be the man who she needs, I would love to do all the things that make this work.
“I want to marry her. I want to have her children.
“I was pacing around my kitchen, I was pacing up and down for days thinking, ‘F*** sake, bruv, this one reckless night . . . you . . . all of those things, brother . . . marriage, kids, the love of my life . . . you have put all of those things at [risk] and now look you probably won’t ever . . . you’ve lost that’. You know what I mean? You’ve lost that.”
Maya and Stormzy split in August after four years together.
A source close to the pair revealed Maya had moved out of their London home after growing tired of the rapper’s “party lifestyle”.
An insider told The Sun: “The decision isn’t one [Maya] has come to lightly, but ultimately the relationship has come to an end.
“She wants to focus on her TV and radio career for now.”
