Having met as co-stars and onscreen lovers on Aussie soap Neighbours, the pair struck up a romance made in showbiz heaven.
They even lent their singing talents to a duet, 1988’s Especially For You.
They dated for three years – and despite tying the knot onscreen, their real life flame died out in 1989.
Characters Scott Robinson and Charlene Mitchell got hitched in 1987, meaning they would soon be celebrating 33 years as a married couple.
A staggering 19.6 million viewers tuned in to watch the big day back in the 80s, with it going down in soap history.
In recent years Jason has opened up on his “extremely painful” split from Kylie – after she called him from Tokyo.
Jason, in New York at the time, received the call to tell him it was over.
He told the Mirror: “It was an extremely painful parting of the ways and, without a doubt, I took a long time to recover from it. Years, definetely.”
Kylie was soon pictured locking arms with the frontman of rockband INXS, Michael Hutchence, who she dated until 1991.
“It was bad enough that she’d run off with anybody,” Jason added, “But she happened to run into the arms of the greatest rock god of the period, the very guy who I secretly wanted to be.
“That was a pretty big punch to take.”
He added that though he’s seen Kylie since, and has even performed with her, their split is never brought up.
“We’re not close enough to get into that,” Jason told.
Michael Hutchence tragically took his own life in 1997, at the age of 37.
Jason previously told Piers Morgan’s Life Stories that his own jealousy of her solo success likely contributed to his split from Kylie.
“I knew I was in love with her when she became successful on her own,” he recalled, “It was a jealousy thing.
“I could see her slipping away. I am sure it happened before that, but it was not until I could see her going off in one direction, I thought I was going to lose her.”
Jason went on to marry Angela Malloch, with whom he shares Jemma, 20, Zac, 19, and Molly, nine.
Kylie, meanwhile, has dated big names including US musician Lenny Kravitz, model James Gooding and French actor Olivier Martinez.
She split from Joshua Sasse in 2017, and now looks to have found love with GQ boss Paul Solomons.
“Who says you can’t be soppy and romantic in later life?” Kylie said recently, “Particularly when you find such a good and true love.”
